The overall theme of my project is hostile architecture, which is a design strategy used by urban leaders to manipulate how areas are used by the public.
I will draw and photograph examples of hostile architecture and begin by focusing on benches as they are used most often in hostile design.
For my personal study, I would like to write about Peter Busby - a pioneer to the advancement of sustainable design. His work links with my project as they are both examples of ethical architecture.
I will use Michael Craig-Martin, Malika Favre and Jan-Andre Granheim to influence my work. They each use clean lines and bold colours. Favre and Granheim employ shadows into their work which I aim to recreate.
STAGE 1 - Illustrate a variety of benches, depicting both hostile and anti-hostile design.
STAGE 2 - Use Michael Craig-Martin's work to inspire an array of bench illustrations.
STAGE 3 - Begin to focus on shadow play, influenced by Malika Favre.
STAGE 4 - Use Jan-Andre Granheim's illustration style to mock-up my designs.
STAGE 5 - Design interface for a website selling my designs on a variety of merchandise.
FINAL PIECE - Series of mockups: posters, postcards, books using my designs.
